about

The title came from an earlier song scrapped between 'Bleeding Sketches' and 'Life's Tapestry'. Although the first version was nothing special, the title just seemed too good to waste, so a new song grew from the ashes of the old one.

This one's basically about one person's romantic, heroic view of another, whether that view is justified or not, yet even the greatest people have their failings and can never always live up to other people's expectations. It's also about blind loyalty in the face of indifference from the person receiving that loyalty. The song, however, works on a lot of different levels and people can take it whichever way they wish.

Eventually pipped 'Alice In Wonderland' to the post as the choice for opening track on the album. Starting on a lone, driving bass guitar and building constantly towards a climatic key change and featuring a powerful, aggressive drum sound amid layers of electric guitars (a-la Johnny Marr!), plus a great rocking accordion line, it gets the album off to a storming, flying start. Although there will be those among you who will disagree with our decision (as always!), hopefully most of you who hear the album will support our choice.

lyrics

A BETTER MAN THAN YOU

He's a better man than you will ever be
His heart is a lion his soul is free
He exudes the greatest triumph with the purest dignity
He's a better man than you will ever be

His voice is louder than yours will ever be
He says more in a moment than your whole life can achieve
He captures people's lives and hearts with words of great beauty
In a louder voice than yours will ever be

And if through trouble he should falter
I will be there to break his fall
I will be his comfort, his shelter from the storm
I will be his flower among them all

He's a stronger man than you will ever be
Fighting with such passion for all that he believes
Against prejudice, injustice, deceit and apathy
He's a stronger man than you will ever be

And if he's prone to break my heart sometimes
I know that he still cares for me
For I know he hides a deeper sensibility
He's a better man than you will ever be

He's a nobler man than you will ever be
Giving so much of himself with a natural selfless ease
And should disaster strike, he will face it gallantly
He's a nobler man than you will ever be

And if you doubt the measure of this man
You need look no further than me
For I am his and I know he's the one for me
He's a better man than you will ever be

He's a better man than you will ever be
He's a better man than you will ever be
