about

The album continues in top gear and in a highly positive vein, while reverting to a more traditional Whisky Priests 'folky' instrument arrangement, for the second track, which features some great melodic inter-play between the accordion, mandola and fiddle, in addition to some incredible vocal harmonies from the 'angelic-voiced twins', Hugh & Andy.

This one knocked us all out when we heard the playback for the first time. The last song to be considered for inclusion at the recording session, it almost never made it onto the album. It certainly exceeded initial expectations and has proved all the more rewarding for it.

The lyrics are deliberately sparing, yet they say a lot using very little, which is one of the song's great strengths. It's about people working together to achieve much more than they ever would if they were at odds with each other and thereby beating all the odds that are stacked against them, no matter how great.

lyrics

SIDE BY SIDE

Mother close the curtains
Kiss me on the brow
Wish me "Good-night and God bless" before you go
Your eyes full of pride
For each little child
Where did it all go?
Where did it all go?

Blood on our noses
Blood on our knees
But flowing thicker than water in our veins
Fighting with each other
Then fighting for each other
Where did it all go?
Where did it all go?

Side by side we will fight
Belief our strength, truth our might
From despair our hope will rise
Stand or fall, side by side
Together we will survive

Instead of doubling our trouble
We can double our score
Turn our differences around
With a passion shared
Two is better than one
The battle still goes on
The battle still goes on

Side by side we will fight
Belief our strength, truth our might
From despair our hope will rise
Stand or fall, side by side
Together we will survive

Stand or fall, side by side
Together we will survive
